Mary Kay's TimeWise Plus Range

When I was younger, I was that kid who'd snuck into her mum's room, used her lipstick, attempted to draw it all over my lips, and ended up colouring 'out of the lines' as they say.

Oh, and getting scolded by my mum when she found out. Way to get myself busted!

Now, I help my friend's apply make up whenever they want me to! How times have changed.

Imagine, walking into Cafe de Jardin (100 Beach Road, Shaw Towers), and greeted with these on the table.

A table full of Mary Kay's products!

Mary Kay is an American cosmetics beauty company, founded in 1963 by a wonderful lady who wanted to empower women for success. Their skincare and products are sold in more than 35 countries around the world, and earns more than $2.5 billion in annual sales a year!

I wondered why I even bothered to put make up in the first place because I could experiment with more colours here. Hahaha, nah I don't think I can go out with contacts and not apply any make up at all. No eye make up, fine but foundation is a must. #digress

Sat with Yvette (the people photos were taken with her DSLR!) who looked really cute that night! *_*

Both of us were super hungry at that time, the decor was so adorably fluffy and cute, so I had no reason not to hit the food table first, right? Plus, we were earlier than half of the other guests, hehe.

No regrets because the duck burger was superb!! If you're around Bugis and don't know where to go for lunch/dinner, try Cafe de Jardin just for their affordable duck burgers. Full stop.

How could I steal from the bunny's tea time stash?

Easily. Hahahaha. I think I had 2 of these duck burgers and licked my fingers after. #don'ttellanyone

We were introduced to Mary Kay's new Timewise plus+ range, that promises to minimize skin aging and allow women to be youthful again! Now that I'm almost in my mid 20s, it's time to protect my skin from aging any further by using their intensive serum and eye cream!

Mary Kay® TimeWise® Plus+™ Regena-Firm™ Intensive Serum, 30ml - SGD 195

Their intensive serum contains Plant Stem cells that will regenerate your skin cells, protect your skin matrix, and thereby keeping your skin firm from free radicals in the air! Another ingredient, Tripeptide1, supports processes for skin repair, while the botanical extracts provides your skin with volume and a lifting effect.
HOW TO USE:

Spread the product upward and outward in circular motions for your forehead, nose, mouth, cheeks, jawline and even neck!

BENEFITS:
- Helps jawline appear lifted
-Define facial contours
-Firms and tightens sagging skin
-Lifting effect
- Lines and wrinkles softened
- Doubles skin hydration

Two of us excited to try the new products

Mary Kay® TimeWise® Plus+™ Regena-Firm™ Correcting Eye Cream, 15ml - SGD 105
HOW TO USE:
Squeeze out a small amount of product onto the tip,
apply under eye area inside out in an outward, circular motion to relieve puffiness/swelling

BENEFITS
- Lifted eye area
- Reduced puffiness
- Minimizes lines
- Minimizes dark circles
- Firms sagging skin
- Liquid crystals enhance effectiveness and illuminate eyes
- Provides moisturization for 12 hours

Love the applicator! Sculpted to fit the eye, tip stimulates microcirculation as it gentle massages the undereye area. Metal on skin makes the effect cooling and refreshing

Pictures below are from Yvette's freaking awesome DSLR with a zipai rotatable screen. I want one.

Me doing the Lip Spa. Rubbing it onto my lips in a circular motion will remove dead skin/cells and enhance my poutability. Okay I added that last bit in. Dab with lip balm after, and your lips will be smoother and bouncier! You'll also get away with pictures of you pouting, like the one above.

Before & After

My lips look lighter and shinier! Okay the shiny bit is due to the lip balm. But lighter nonetheless!

Little cute section where we were introduced to some of their other existing products, and lip gloss!

That's us after we've applied lip stick and lip gloss! :) Say Hi to Zurina!

Staring at Yvette's hair makes me feel like cutting bangs. Hmm.

Thank you Mary Kay and PR girls for this get together!
(and for introducing my new favourite duck burger joint)

The Body Shop Make Up Review and Giveaway

Girls, admit it, you want to look better. So do I, of course.

Let me tell you about how I was when I was much younger. Imagine little Claire, with bangs and short hair just below her ears, hiding behind her parents when meeting relatives, and not talking to anyone.

Yup that was me. Insecure, shy and... cute? Haha.

In primary 1 or 3 though, I met my 'partner'. You know how teachers would give you a partner, make you hold hands and sit together etc? Yeah my partner talked a lot. After that, I couldn't shut up.

In primary 4 I did something really stupid. I roughly remember it because I really regret doing it -_-. I really liked hanging out with my then best friend, and when she got closer to another girl I got really jealous and wrote that I hate her on the blackboard.

We stopped being friends after that. Urgh so STUPID right?!?! No I'm not lesbian but I really just can't believe I threw away a great friendship. Wait I'm digressing.

In secondary school, I had long hair, but geeky, small oval framed specs, had a high belt and used a backpack. Outside of school, I wore OP t-shirts, jeans and sports shoes.

This is why there are no pictures of me during my secondary school days, online. Good riddance.

In JC, I tried wearing contacts but DID NOT LIKE THEM. They made my eyes so dry and I always envied friends who could open their eyes wide enough to wear them every day. In the mornings my eyes are like, half-closed.

Mind you, I hadn't even explored the use of make-up yet.

It was only in university that I tried foundation. Then eyeshadow. Then eyeliner. It was only last year when I started using concealer, lipstick and blusher.

Now, I'm using wig hair extensions. Hahahha.

Nothing is impossible so I'm sharing all the tips now to hope that you guys don't take as long as I did. Or if you've passed it, hurry up and zoom to the whole package!

In my previous post HERE, I talked about the new all-in-one range of BB creams from The Body Shop and here's my quick review :)

BB Cream

This product claims to be...

1. Colour-adapting
2. Even skin tone
3. 24h Hydration
4. Conditions
5. Smooth Finish
6. Lightweight
7. Undetectable
8. Non-clogging

But let's figure out how to use it first, k?

How to use:

I wouldn't recommend directly applying the product onto your face, instead, squeeze a little onto your hand, rub in a circular motion, then use a foundation brush to spread this evenly onto your face.

Blend in a circular motion (but I blended horizontally because I didn't want to mix it with the other shades) and watch as the colour changes!

When you first squeeze a little product onto your hand, and rub it in a circular motion, you'll see a bit of pink mixing into the foundation colour. Don't be alarmed (I know I was alarmed at first). That pinkish fluid is Body Shop's secret formula that causes the perfect blending onto your skin.

Final product! From top to bottom 01, 02 and 03.

There are three shades, for light, medium and dark skintones. As you can tell from the picture above, I suit the light shade the best. Each BB cream is $32.90!

Did you know? All-In-One BB Cream contains Community Fair Trade marula oil, sourced from the Eudafano Women’s Cooperative in Namibia. They have been trading with them since 2000, helping more than 5000 women in rural communities to benefit through gaining a sense of independence, competence and confidence, as well as creating a lifeline for their children by providing money for education.

The Verdict:
Use loose powder after because I felt my face feel shiny. Coverage is quite light, and I would prefer to look fairer rather than my same skin tone. Good for dry skin!

Face base - Foundation and powder

The Body Shop also gave me their All-in-one Facebase ($36.90) to try. It's a foundation and powder which gives a flawless-looking, matte finish.

Verdict: Love it!! Was bringing the 052 everywhere with me until I dropped it and all the powder shattered -_-. Well done Claire. Now I use the 045 but I feel it makes me look a little tanner. Oh well.

Blusher

From the top, left to bottom right: 7, 10, 2, 5, 4 ,1

Don't forget your blusher before going out! It can turn pale, dull skin into vibrant and youthful ones. The Body Shop's all-in-one cheek colour is $22.90 and is a superfine powder blusher.

My FAVOURITE shades are 2 and 1. From pale and sickly to healthy and glowing. Not kidding.

Dabbed a little on a piece of white paper so you can see the difference since I don't expect everyone to have the same skin colour as me :) You can see which blushers have pink undertones and which are more orange-y! Here are the colours on my arm.

No monetary compensation was received for this blogpost.

Maybeline Lashionista, Hypercosmos Eyeshadow, Hyper Liquid Eyeliner, Baby Lips Pink Glow and Foundation Sticks

I'm always on the lookout for better make-up products than the ones I'm currently using, so when I first received this pack from Maybelline, I couldn't wait to share them with you :)    Check out Maybelline's Arresting Lash party's press goodie bag! I have also included the invitation card because it was pretty cool haha.

Thank you Maybelline!!
More on their products later.

The event was held at... Zouk!

That night we were treated to catwalk performances, make up tips by Larry (if you remember, I wrote about his tips in this entry!) I arrived early, so I went to walk around the area shopping for clothes. It was too dark though and the lighting made the colours of the clothes appear a different shade.

I actually saw a really nice dress from catwalkclose but I could not fit into it -_- their size was superrrrr small and not for girls with bigger bottoms (like me) Plus their largest size was M!!! I can't fit into M just because of my hips/butt so I was very upset. No refunds were given that day so I had to make-do with store credit. Haven't found anything that I liked so far either.

So, along with the crappy colour estimation,  I got quite frustrated and gave up.

It was really really crowded and I could only join Sarah, Andy and everyone only after it ended. Plus, when Xiaxue walked by, I could see throngs of girls whispering (not very softly) and pointing at her.

If Xiaxue ever reads this, don't worry I only heard good things! Like "She's soo pretty" and "Omg her hair is soo nice!" Yup.

A blur picture with Mel. I've known her since sec 3 because we were in the same literature and geography class. And now she was in the NUS pageant and a blogshop model?? You never know what life has in store for you :) I remember us talking with Leigh-anne and complaining about our geography teacher. Who had purple-pink lips because of her lipstick and we absolutely hated her perfume because it really smelt bad. Haha but it's those funny instances that makes school memorable right?

Oh I suddenly remembered that my geography teacher liked to pout. *shudders*

Luckily we managed to grab another photo! I miss wearing my IJ uniform, even though I was a complete geek in it. Hahah. Mel you're still as skinny!!

How does Hayley look cute in like every photo?! Her face is so small!!

With Silver who was dressed in pink to match the launch of Fashionista's pink mascara. Haha.

Lashionista DOES NOT CLUMP AT ALL. Even after multiple layers!!! Korilakkuma also wants to try hehe. However, I don't think it adds much volume, it just darkens your current lashes. Would recommend this for either the first coat on your eyelashes, or the last coat to remove clumps. For lengthening effects you really have to combine it with other mascaras! Perhaps the Maybelline's super volume mascara. (purple in colour!) Really lengthens but clumps easily.

Here's a photo of my sparse eyelashes, after applying Lashionista.

I really like playing with eyeshadows. Just using the right colours and blending them properly can cause your eyes to reflect your mood and personality. I like using lighter colours in the day because it makes me look more awake and bright and cheery. For night events, smoke it up with dark purple, dark brown or charcoal black. Plus, I carry a small make up pouch to work to touch up so I really prefer all my make up to fit inside. It's only about 15cm by 10cm? Quite small so I can't bring bigger eyeshadow palettes.

Sorry the colours don't come out on paper as well as they do on the skin. A better representation below!

As you can see, there's purple, pink, blue, green and brown to choose from! My personal favourite is the green and blue eyeshadow that really makes your eyes pop and look refreshed! (LG1) For a more sunkissed healthy look, choose the CP1 brown tones. Dark purple is recommended for clubbing :P

Now Maybelline has made it even more convenient for ladies to carry make up around!! Check out their new Hypercosmos Eyeshadow range ($17.90 each), which features TWO baked colours in each palette!! If you're wondering how baked eyeshadows are different from normal eyeshadows, the baking process removes excess water pigments for more pure, intense, saturated colour!

This makes the colours transfer more easily onto your eyes and it stays longer!

In this new range, Maybelline also introduced their Baby Lips Pink Glow in Baby Pink and Baby Lips Pink Glow in Pink Blast. This lip balm makes you look like you're wearing a hint of lipstick, but you're just wearing lip balm! Plus, lip balm keeps your lips moisturized for up to 8 hours PLUS it's infused with Botanical concentrates to restore damaged cells on your lips! If you know why your partner keeps wanting to kiss you... you know why. Hahah. Lips are really important, and dry chapped lips are a definite turn-off.

 Before
After. No photoshop!!

I know of a guy who would apply lip balm just before making out. Religiously.

Also a quick introduction to some of their other products from Maybelline that I love.

I haven't used foundation sticks in a really long time (since seconday school) because I didn't like how dry and patchy they would look on my skin, but Maybelline's clear smooth foundation sticks makes my face look moisturized and healthy!

Why did I use them in secondary school? Haha that's because I was in choir and we needed like really thick make up so that we look great on stage. Imagine dark drawn in eyebrows, two to three layers of foundation, red lipstick, etc etc. No falsies though.

I used their foundation stick here! Very natural looking right? :)

Maybelline's foundation sticks are available in 01- Fresh and 03- Radiance. If you're relatively fair skinned, Fresh would suit you, and if you're relatively darker (or tanned), then Radiance is a better option! Comes with SPF 21 PA and it eliminates shine and absorbs extra sebum from your skin, so if you have oily skin, this is a good recommendation! Plus it's very natural looking and can hide redness. This product glides on very easily. Best foundation stick I've ever used so far!

Lip balms that come with SPF protection get double approval from me! Comes in two flavours, depending on your taste (because you WILL eat some lip balm, it's inevitable) Either Mango Pie or Cherry Velvet! I actually leave lip balm in my work pencil case so that I can conveniently reapply every time my lips feel dry in the air-conditioned office. I keep another lip balm in my make-up bag, and a third one in front of my mirror at home! :) See how prepared I am? Muarhaha.

Get them at Watsons, Sasa, Guardian, selected departmental stores etc etc. Thanks Maybelline! Because I'm worth it. (BHB) Hahahh.

The Body Shop Tea Tree

So my brother's back from Japan and whenever I'm bored, instead of walking around the kitchen finding food, I go to his room to disturb him, just like old times. Sometimes he is playing a computer game, sometimes he's reading his tech-y stuff, but I disturb him all the same.

Me: "Eh kor, your skin quite bad, I can see your pores."
Kor: "Yah I know."
Me: "Hmm you gotta try this Body Shop Pore Minimizer, will help reduce your pores!!"
Kor: "Ok I try!"

And now he has added it to his daily regime. And it's working!!

What is this Pore Minimizer? It's Body Shop's new Tea Tree product. Available at all Body Shop stores!

What is Tea Tree? Renowned for its anti bacterial properties that can also be used for burns, cuts and bites! It's anti-fungal, antiseptic, anti-infectious and anti-inflammatory.

Tea Tree Pore Minimizer is freaking amazing. I've been applying it religiously to my nose and under chin area and my pores are getting smaller!! Haven't disappeared (yet) but I am hoping for the best.

What it does: Reduces pore size, softens the look of enlarged pores and absorbs excess serum!

You may also have heard of Body Shop's bestseller Tea Tree Oil that clears up your skin without over-drying it! Apply before make up or bring along for touch-ups during the day.

How to use: Apply onto horrible pimples or about-to-erupt-into-a-pimple skin!

Why Body Shop's Tea Tree is so awesum: They're handpicked from organically grown plants and the oil is produced by Kenya Organic Oil Farmers' Association which creates employment and better education for farmers!

Once you get addicted to the Tea Tree products, (and smell), be sure to check out the other items like the Tea Tree Facial Wash, Tea Tree Cleanser, Tree Tree Blemish Gel etc!

I've incorporated this into my daily morning skincare regime, after applying toner, and before applying moisturizer ;)

PSST!! Good things must share!! (I should do up a banner for this)

The Body Shop has a digital campaign on Tea Tree Pore Minimiser to encourage facebook fans to submit a review of their favourite Tea Tree product, and of course, you get GOODIES!

-          FREEBIES! Anyone who submits will get a Tea Tree Rescue Pack (consisting of a one week supply of Tea Tree Facial Wash, best-selling Tea Tree Oil and NEW Tea Tree Pore Minimiser).
-          3 reviewers with the most number of votes will win a Tea Tree Hamper (worth more than $300)
-          3 voters who voted for the top reviewer will also win $100 worth of The Body Shop products!

(don't miss this chance, it's really simple!!)

Thanks Body Shop! Another step to flawless skin is always a recommendation from me :D

Vanity Trove x Erabelle Prestige Vivocity

Stepping into Erabelle is like stepping into another realm. It's a sanctuary for a busy woman who want to be transported from the typical crowd. If catwoman saw this decadent place she might've robbed the place empty. (Dark Knight Rises reference, just watched it and it blew my mind) Hahah.

[Continue reading on for a giveaway ;) ]

Tucked away in a little corner of Vivocity, next to The Coffee Bean, was Erabelle Prestige's Vivo branch! I was super impressed with the amount of effort and time spent decorating the place. The designer sure has a keen eye for detail ;)

Notice the plush chairs and the sleek wallpaper!!

Nicolette greeted me and I felt instantly welcome. I didn't know who would be there but I spotted Hayley and relaxed. Hahah. If you haven't heard of Erabelle before, they are a multi-award winning beauty chain, to mention one would be the Singapore Women’s Weekly Best In Beauty 2012 Winner for Best Brow Embroidery. Their secret weapon is their "softstroke technique"and their very own Micropen used during embroidery! More on that later.

Me, Hayley and Clara! Had a good hair day so I curled it a little bit :) Clara likes korean stuff and she's going to Korea to do her masters! Dream come true!

Erabelle means "belle of this era" (I could've figured this out whoops) and captures the timeless and classic beauty for the modern woman. It's very evident in their surroundings and the pretty kimono-clad ladies!

Since we had to take turns for our eyebrows to be shaped, the cam-whoring began.

Check out my ginormous thighs! Never photoshop k. Okay please stop staring now.

Hayley and I. She's so skinny but keeps harping on that she's fat. T_T

Picture of me before getting my brows done! I've maintained them well over the years, since I started trimming them in sec 3 or 4. My first trim was with my facial lady, who did a great job and I warned her not to overpluck them too thin. "Just pluck the stray hairs", I said.

Also, when I went to JY (shall not spell their brand out but I guess you can figure it out) the beautician wanted to shave my eyebrows to get the shape, to which I objected to. I think shaving not only makes the hair grow thicker, but the hair that grows out is harder to manage. Plus, isn't shaving an easy way out for a beautician? Think it doesn't reflect on their skills =\

I don't use any eyebrow pencils to fill in the gaps or darken them, so usually in flash pictures my eyebrows look sparse compared to my other blogger friends. But this is about to change :P

It was dinnertime and I was super hungry so I helped myself to some of the finger food they prepared for us. I mostly had sandwiches and tea :) Noticed that many events have twelve cupcakes providing cupcakes!! Hope they're not too fattening because I love their red velvet.

Event kicked off with an introduction to Erabelle by Nicolette and then we got to see the master work her skills on a model! She'll ask for your occupation and personality to match you with eyebrows that suit you. Also, she will test if your skin is sensitive to their products before working on your brows! Professional or what?

The next segment saw each of us having our brows trimmed, shaped and styled! Just like the hair on your head, don't neglect your eyebrows which frame your face and is noticeable whenever people talk to you!

Artists are trained in-house on colour theory, technique, features identification and sanitization before their hands-on clinic session begins. Rest assured you're in good hands!

Gotta love their eyebrow tweezers which are specially fabricated with a polymer tip to provide less pain when tweezing.

Erabelle makes everything look pretty. I shall build up the anticipation of my before/after brows picture by sharing you more about Erabelle's services! Their eyebrow scissors have a fine cutting edge to follow your natural brow shape. The tip is really sharp though so be careful not to accidentally poke yourself with it. For more info, check out their website at Erabelle Prestige

Erabelle has 3 main services - Erabrow, Eraliner and Eralip.

Erabrow - customises the shape and color of your eyebrows according to your face shape.
Ideal for individuals with sparse, uneven eyebrows.

Eraliner - thickness and color of eyeliner is customised according to the shape and size of your eyes, giving better balance to the face. Suitable for people who do not know how to apply eyeliner, allergic to make-up, problems with contact lenses or oily skin that causes make-up to smear.

Eralip- colour is custom-blended to suit your skin tone, age and preference by defining and shading in your lips! Best for individuals who do not have defined lip-shape or uneven lip colour!

Plus all colours exceed the safety standards of European Cosmetic Directive and are approved by FDA (Germany) and any leftover colours will be discarded.

Note that this is cosmetic artistry, NOT tattoo. Which means colour is embedded into the epidermis which will lighten over time. Tattoos embed pigments into the dermis which stays pretty much the same over time. Hence cosmetic artistry is semi-permanent while a tattoo is permanent.

I'd rather a semi-permanent colour because I'm fickle and tattoo-ed eyebrows look really unnatural after they fade, especially when they turn dark green or blue. *shudders*

We also had a tour of the different rooms, each room had a different design and different feel to it. Do you know that each VIP has their names embroided onto their personal towel for them to use whenever they're at Erabelle? Now THAT's service.

My favourite decoration of that night in their VIP room. Check out the embossed wall! I actually walked over to touch the wall. Would love to have something like this in my future home! Plus they had some Audrey Hepburn photos in pretty picture frames in some of the rooms. Absolutely love her.

Every room has a different, unique name. Frou frou sounds cute. Notice how pretty they designed it to be?

They also have facial services, check out their range which will be customized by your therapist after she's assessed your face!

Am personally loving the collagen eye mask. Think my eyes need lots of TLC!

My 'before' and 'after' brow pic! Notice how my eyebrows appear fuller and wayyy neater? They make me look cute and more refreshed too! The Erabelle Long Lasting BRow Pencil comes in dark brown/black/grey but they used dark brown for me here. I love how the colour easily comes on and lasts the entire day!

Now that I'm happy with my brows, time to take photos with the intricate frames Erabelle printed for us to play with!!

Celestina and Hayley. Instead of posting us in 3 different poses one after the other, I decided to make a collage so you can admire the pictures in one pic. Nice right? :D

To the ladies at Vanity Trove, thank you so much for organizing this!! Had an amazing night :)
