A Sealy® transformation - Once you've gone Sealy, you can't go back

Some of my friends that own Sealy's say that it's the "best 2k I've ever spent" and that it "feels like I'm sleeping on clouds". After using my Sealy for a month, I've got tons of comments of my own. It's been a great experience and thanks for joining me on my Sealy transformation!

Keep reading to find out how YOU can win $200 CASH and 2 awesome Sealy pillows!!

Super happy and refreshed!

Sealy one month later

It took about a week to adjust to my new bed. In that week, I tossed and turned for about 10 mins before I could get to sleep, and my old memory foam pillow (not from Sealy) was causing me stiff necks in the morning.

But it was worth it.

Just lazin in bed

By the second week, my body was completely adjusted to my new Sealy and things were looking awesome! I gave my memory foam pillow to my brother, and switched to the complimentary pillows Sealy provided me with, and my neck issue was gone.

In my first blog post, I mentioned that I often had back aches from just lying on my bed, but ever since I used my Sealy, my back aches never came back! Now, I fall asleep almost instantly when my head hits the pillow and my body starts recovering more effectively. :) I don't wake up randomly during the night and have trouble going back to sleep anymore. I've been having more dreams now, which is a sign that I'm having more REM sleep, which improves my memory retention and is healthier for the body.

It's important to get Stage 4 of deep sleep and REM sleep or you will have trouble focusing during the day, experience lower productivity levels and causes you to feel drowsy and irritable. It's also important to get enough rest so your immune system is rejuvenated and internally, your cells and muscles can repair and grow. Also, pain may be intensified by the physical and mental consequences of lack of sleep. Thus, staying up all night to study for that test or finish that presentation actually is more detrimental than originally thought!

Do note that quantity is not quality. You may sleep for many hours, but if your sleep isn't deep enough,  if your sleep cycle is disturbed, you may still be at greater risk for illness. A simple way to gauge the quality of your sleep is to see how refreshed you feel when you wake up.

As a result, I am happier, my energy levels during the day are higher and I feel more motivated to do more activites like sports! Plus, I think my eyebags and eye circles have reduced hehe.

I like how my Sealy mattress is made of the revolutionary Posturepedic Titanium Coil which supports my body whichever direction I turn by distributing the weight! This helps my muscles to relax and recover while I sleep :)

Unicased Technology with full surround support to lock the spring system :O

The Torsion Bar at the bottom also absorbs stresses and shocks that the bed experiences (whatever you do on your bed haha!) which helps add years of life to your mattress. Also, my bed had a visitor...

Squishy explores the Sealy the first time

Her second time and Squishy loves it!! Look at her happy contented 'lepak' (relaxed) face hahah. Don't worry she's toilet trained!

When I was changing bedsheets, I noticed the clever rubberised fabric cover actually helps grip my bedsheets to keep them in place for a tidier looking bed! You know how sometimes you wake up in the morning and your bedsheets are out... that didn't happen with my Sealy :)

The final Sealy transformation - designing the bed!

So in the last adventure we left off with tips on how to pick mattresses and the delivery of my bed, now came the last run, designing the bed! I spent HOURS picking mattress covers because there was so many to choose from plus there were so many combinations to choose from, with pillows and bed skirtings available
at the same place :)

Here are my picks!

Look #1: Thrown together

Found a brand new unused bedsheet in the storeroom which had matching pillow cases! Threw on a dash of colour with this vintage floral quilt and this was the first design before I went out to buy more.

Great for my habits which include: sleeping diagonally, kicking and leaving my ipad on the other pillow. This bedsheet is really soft and doesn't look 'old' despite several washes! Plus the comforter makes everything look neat.

Look #2: Corporately me

Thought of having a more mature bedsheet so that I'd feel more professional when I woke up. Thus this brown swirly bedsheet design!

Possibly goes well with your boyfriend/husband for those who share beds with them. I wanted to brighten up the bed with a pop of colour so I went down to IKEA to hunt for these orange pillow cases and bought separate pillows :)

Threw in a sun hat because Singapore's weather is hot and another smaller cute soft toy from Osaka's Rilakkuma store which shows Korilakkuma being a store assistant. Very apt to describe corporate life! Haha. Bachelors can also use this bedsheet design too.

Look #3: Girlish but stylish

Please pardon the creases *shifty eyes* but this is my favourite design of all!

Waking up to this makes me feel like dressing up for the day! Even while I was in Phuket I was thinking of my mattress back home. Oh and apparently I don't kick anymore!! Hehe

Which design out of the three do you prefer?

In future when I (eventually and hopefully) get married, I am definitely going to have a Sealy no matter what my (currently non-existent) husband says. And maybe I'll occasionally let my future kids sleep with us,  hehe!

With a 10 years mattress guarantee and knowing that Sealy posturepedic mattresses are designed with the help of Orthopaedic surgeons and sleep experts, I know I'm in good hands.

Thank you for travelling with this journey with me, if you've liked my entries, or if they entertained you, please spare a minute to...

You stand to win $200 cash and 2 awesome pillows from Sealy just from voting! One minute of voting could give you $200. If you extrapolate that to one hour... we'd all be rich.

You never have a good rest til you've gotten a Sealy, that's what I think.

Thank you Sealy and OMY!

A Sealy® transformation - How to pick a mattress?

After years of sleeping on an overused mattress, my new and first Sealy luxury mattress was delivered to my place about two weeks ago and I am loving it! Switching from a single bed to a queen sized bed meant that I had to shift some things about, and that took me a while to clean, sort out and prepare. However, when that fated day came, I was so excited I was even late in meeting my friends for dinner! The whole experience so far has definitely been incredible and I don't think I can sleep on any other mattress other than a Sealy anymore. Well, more on that later.

If you have to bring your kids with you to the Sealy showroom, they have a little area with children's books for your kids to be entertained!

As this was the first time I was picking my own mattress, I wanted to pick an awesome one which I could thoroughly enjoy and use for 10 years (useful life). If you think about it, picking a quality mattress which costs about $3,000, works out to about $300 a year and less than $1 a day. That's less than a cup of iced milo from a hawker centre these days, plus you sleep on a mattress much longer than you take to drink a cup of milo :p Furthermore, compared to the potential costs of back injuries, posture problems that amount to more than $10,000 worth of health bills, physiotherapy sessions etc, a Sealy is a really good investment!

Now, I mentioned in my first Sealy blogpost that I was going to share the secrets of how to pick a mattress, because a while ago I had no clue what to look out for. It's just 3 steps so it's not too difficult to remember too.

1) The 'roll' test

The whole purpose of getting a comfortable mattress is so that your body can rest and recover from the day's activities, so someone disturbing or disrupting your sleep would be the last thing you'd want! With that in mind, I came up with this test because I am a light sleeper and I wake up whenever there's movement on the bed.

If you need someone to 'test' it for you, don't be shy and ask the Sealy assistants!

This test requires you to ask a friend/husband/wife/kid to lie down on the other side of the bed, and turn. From the left to the right, from lying on your back to your tummy, try it all. While your partner is tossing around, close your eyes and focus on the transfer of energy. Can you feel your partner moving about? Does it affect you? If you're a completely heavy sleeper than... consider this for your companion lol.

I picked my Luxury Firm Mattress mainly because of this reason, so don't skip it even though it may look silly! The torsion bar support in Sealy mattresses absorbs the stresses and shocks that a bed experiences and adds years to the life of your mattress.

PSST! I also recommended this test to Eevon who used it and we ended up picking the same mattress!

2) Your sleeping position/back problems
Through this Sealy journey, I learnt that your sleeping position can affect the mattress you pick to sleep in. It boils down to the science and the pressure points.

I like to sleep on my side, sometimes in a foetal position, but I usually wake up on my back. Hmm.

If you prefer to sleep on your side, a smaller surface area of your body is carrying your body weight, so a softer mattress would suit you better. People who sleep in a foetal position appear tough but are sensitive. They also take a longer time to warm up to people. Any person with back problems should look for a firmer mattress to provide more support over comfort. Sleeping on your back is usually noticed in people who are quiet, reserved and set high standards for themselves. If you sleep on your stomach like me in the picture above, a softer mattress would balance the strain and relieve some pressure. People who sleep on their stomachs are likely to be confident and quick in making decisions.

Do you think these personality attributes are representative of you? The Sealy Posturepedic features natural cotton, premium Sealy foams and fibres to ensure your body receives the correct comfort and feel over many years.

3) That 'feeling'
When you're at a mattress showroom, just try all the beds that they offer. You'll be able to tell the difference between premium extravagent mattresses from the basic entry level ones, and yes there's a whole lot of difference. Some will feel more comfortable, some might feel 'strange', some might even trigger back aches so it's imperative you take your time to decide on one.

Doesn't matter how glam or unglam you look, it's about how it feels, oh and whether your pet enjoys it too.

Was talking to Sealy Sales Consultant, Ivy, who recommended lying on a mattress for at least 10 minutes to get the real feel of the bed, experience the memory foam (if any) taking the contour of your body and for the mattress to balance your pressure points. I'm not complaining if I have more time to relax on a Sealy, after all, they're designed to provide the perfect balance of correct supporting and amazing comfort :p

PSST! The best position to sleep in is actually on your back because it reduces acid reflux and minimizes wrinkles. However it's also the position which encourages snoring :(

---------------

Picking a mattress you like regardless of the price is important because you spend at least 1/4 of the day on your bed!

PSST!  Sealy Sleep Palace is having insane GSS sales and are selling at slashed prices! Plus their friendly staff let you take as long as you want to pick your own mattress. The details are:

A Sealy® transformation - Redecorating my room

When we last left off on my Sealy adventure, I had just picked my Hotels Collection, Luxury Firm Mattress in Queen, and was super excited for it to arrive! Click here to read all about it.

So in this part 2 of my Sealy transformation, I'll kick things off by telling you a secret. The truth is, my travel buddies have been complaining that I kick in my sleep. I didn't believe them until I woke up in the morning (more than once) and saw my bolster on the floor. *guilty look* Thus the realisation - I need a bigger bed! If I can't stop myself from kicking subconsciously, then at least my bolster can still be on the bed in the mornings, right?

The preparation
Disclaimer: My room is quite messy! Don't judge :X

After selecting my mattress at Sealy's, I came home that day and knew that I had to revamp my room or my Queen would not fit. Both my bed and bed frame were single's, as you can tell from the picture, and the only non-single part about my bed is my Korilakkuma bear. *sob*

I started by clearing out the stuff under my bed, before I remembered to take a picture. That explains why you can see some things sticking out hahah they're normally hidden away. And no, there are no monsters under my bed :p

Instead, it's a box full of... empty boxes! And my secondary school/jc collection of music CD's and burned CD's of my old photos. See if you recognise some of the album covers on the left! I was sorting and throwing away some of the older ones I had. Even found my Meteor Garden VCD. Wow.

First order of business is to remove the bedsheet and mattress! And no, my mattress was not originally white -_-

Next, to dismantle the bed frame and clean the area underneath! I prefer to use magic clean before the vacuum because I find it picks up more dust through wiping. After mopping I also scrubbed the floor with detergent!

My dismantled bed frame! Obviously I had help from my dad and brother on this aspect :p

Finally it was done!!! Now all I had to do was wait for my mattress to arrive. As you can tell, I don't have the luxury of space :(

Anticipation

The mattresses were slated to be delivered from 2-5pm that Saturday, but the anticipation build up started from the night before. I had a terrible sleep. Was tossing and turning, woke up to get a glass of water, woke up again, checked my phone, and eventually gave up trying to go back to sleep at 9am.

I was already dreaming of the awesome Sealy that was to come.

Oh how I want you to be mine ASAP

I couldn't wait for my new mattress to arrive, and was trying to distract myself the whole afternoon, when suddenly, at 4.30pm...

Spotted!!
I jumped up, grabbed my camera and started snapping away. For 130 years Sealy has been designing and building their Posturepedic mattresses with their consumer's needs in mind, so of course I couldn't wait to properly try one of my own!

The delivery men came in and immediately went to work setting up my box spring (to support your mattress)! I wanted my mattress to lie parallel to the window, but I knew that I did not have the luxury of space with a computer table in the way, but we managed to make it work!

I was really surprised to receive a brand new box spring!! Thank you Sealy this is more than I ever wished for :')

Sealy Box spring unwrapped!!

It's important to get a good boxspring to complement your mattress, for three main reasons:

1) To raise the height of your mattress, so if you roll too much while sleeping you'll fall onto the floor and kick that habit once and for all. Oh, and also for you to get in and out of bed easier.

2) To protect your mattress from wear and tear, less chances of getting dust mites etc, and to absorb shock. It diffuses strong impacts and supports the springs in your mattress. Imagine a kid jumping on your awesome mattress without a boxspring. Your mattress wouldn't last very long!

3) To keep your mattress flat and firm year after year, especially when you sleep in the same position every night!

Don't take your mattress for granted, the more you take care of it, the longer it will last!

Next, my mattress gets unwrapped. Check out the adorable floral print on the StayTight Foundation Cover. Sigh it's so pretty!

Take a look at the handles on the mattress. As the Hotel Collection mattresses are under the Prestige Collection, they have 4 LightRight Wrap Handles located on each corner and side of the mattress as additional gripping points to make moving your mattress easier! I saw the movers use one arm each to turn the mattress around and was really impressed, the handles are really sturdy and can easily carry the weight of the mattress! Don't have to worry about them tearing!

The transformation

Finally, my mattress was carefully placed on top of my box spring and ready to be used! Here's the first look ;)

Super happy because my Sealy mattress uses Silver Ion fabric which contains antibacterial and moisture-removing properties. When I head to sleep at night I know my bed is clean and hygienic! :)

All set up! I was also surprised to be given 2 complimentary Sealy Premium Pillows and 1 Mattress Pad in Queen size. It's also important to use a mattress pad to protect your mattress and it's also easy to wash in case there are any stains!

Alright I now have another reason to take more naps or hit snooze more often :p Look out for my next post with my new bedsheet, quilt and matching pillowcases!

A Sealy® transformation - The beginning

Recently, it struck me. My close friends are all working, our spending power has increased, and our aspirations in life have somewhat altered. I'm becoming more independent and am taking on more responsibilities and am morphing into... a lady.

Have to start eating chilli now

It's true. I'm being forced to mature.

Lets face it, I'm past 21 and am one of the OL's practicing my balancing act on the train in the mornings. So... what's next? I'm not about to get married soon, I'm a swinging single woman with her life ahead of her, so how could I represent this new change in me? I thought about a new hairstyle, a new wallet, but these didn't seem significant enough. Then I thought about creating my own space. Since buying a place of my own or renting one is wayyy too expensive in a Singapore context, I wanted to redecorate my room instead. What better place to start changing things up in your room than to start with your bed - the item you use for the longest time, right?

Furthermore, my current mattress has been with me for 20+ years already, and after a quick research online, the lifespan of a mattress is only about 10 years! Oops. Since last year, I also noticed that my lower back often hurts when I'm on my bed, then I'd prop my legs up on a pillow and the pain would lessen. At times, I would also toss and turn for hours before falling asleep. I had always associated it with 'thinking too much' and 'insomnia', but I have considered that it might be due to my mattress!

When I took a closer look at my mattress, guess what I saw.

My mattress was overused and sagging! Notice the crease lines when I compressed it? That means that the foam has broken down, and has lost its resilience. It was time for a new mattress to achieve proper spinal alignment for my body and that explained why I felt tired in the mornings.

As mattresses are expensive, if you've been experience similar symptoms as me, try rotating your mattress (from head to foot) and see if it helps. This can help extend the shelf life of your mattress for a while longer! However, if you hear the bed springs when you lie on your bed, then there's no delaying it, it's time for a change!

If you're a young couple and planning to get your own place, I'd say, get a comfortable and lasting mattress that will keep you well rested. You're already tired from the activities of the day, so indulge yourself in some good sleep to provide you with energy for the next! Oh, and get a pretty bed frame to match :p

With Alvin, from OMY

So it's about time to change. I wanted a good mattress that would support me in my times of need (hurhur) and Sealy is the largest mattress manufacturer in the world. They're a well-known household brand in America and is widely respected by companies and individuals. Their mattresses are used in luxury resorts, hotels and even in the White House! I went down to the Sealy Sleep Palace showroom at Tanglin to find out more.

Sealy Sleep Palace

I went down to the Sealy Sleep Palace along with 4 other bloggers and we were warmly greeted by the GM of Sealy Asia, the marketing team and the OMY team! The showroom at Tanglin is huuuge with a wide variety of mattresses, so you're going to be spoilt for choice.

Once the briefing was over, we were free to roam around and pick our mattresses! Everyone dispersed in different directions, lying down for a bit, then getting up and trying the next one.

Also, the lovely staff passed me a blanket so there wouldn't be any 'accidents', so if you're wearing a skirt or dress to the showroom, don't worry!

When I was walking around the showroom, I liked the warm and homely feel they recreated. There's a faux fireplace with an inviting chair and two adorable furry friends who want to play ball with you. I get the feeling that whether you're in your twenties swinging single, a young couple starting a future together, or a family, Sealy will help you find the perfect mattress to complement your home and help create that spirit of togetherness.

Anyhoo, a great touch!

This was one of Pete's choice of mattresses, but he decided on another one in the end. It was my first time meeting him and he was really friendly and nice! Will be sharing tips on how to pick mattresses at a later date, so keep checking back ;)

I was torn between a firm mattress and a softer one so I ended up asking a lot of questions but Ivy was really patient and delivered great service! She really knows her stuff too, so if you're unsure about anything feel free to ask :p

My choice

Hotels Collection - as glamourous as its name sounds

I wanted the flagship Sealy Posturepedic mattress because of its titanium alloy innersprings which provide a combination of support and pressure relief on pressure points. This leads to more restful, restorative sleep! There are a few collections under this range to choose from, but more on that in another post ;)

Picking a mattress from the hotels collection meant that these mattresses are also supplied to internationally renowned hotels like Fairmount, Four Seasons, Grand Copthorne, Grand Hyatt, Holiday Inn, Intercontinental, St Regis, Sheraton and more! I loved how comfortable the bed was during my last staycation at St Regis, and how good it felt when I woke up the following morning!

I made my choice - The Luxury Firm mattress in Queen (152x190cm) and it happened to be the same one Eevon decided on!

Valerie, the Marketing Manager informed me that delivery would be either that Saturday morning or afternoon. I was taken aback because I had expected delivery to be one to two weeks later instead, not in a few days! I had NO bed frame for a Queen sized bed because my bed at home was a Single, and was planning to get one after picking my desired mattress.

"What?? This Saturday?? But I haven't gotten a bed frame yet!!"

Just then, Mr Lee, General Manager of Sealy, generously offered to loan me a box spring for the campaign, so that I would have more time to look for a bed frame.

Not knowing what a box spring was, they informed me that it's a bed base that doesn't have a headboard and is commonly used in hotels and showrooms! The mattress and box spring work in unison to provide stable and continuous support. I learnt later that your sleep set must be situated on a proper bed frame with rigid center support which will offset any unwanted flexing on your mattress to provide a flat, level sleeping foundation.

It was a really thoughtful gesture which I thankfully accepted. Thank you Sealy!! I was all set! After we had picked our mattresses, it was just the next phase to look forward to - receiving it :p
