Coffee Bean's 50th Anniversary Tea Cappuccinos in Singapore!

Not many people know this, but if I had to choose between coffee or tea, I'll pick tea.

I normally grab a cuppa tea during lunch to stay awake in the afternoon and am always on the lookout for nice tea! So when I was recently introduced to Coffee Bean's 50th Anniversary Tea Cappuccinos which were a great perk-me-up and tasty, I just HAD to introduce them to you guys! The downer is that these flavours are available for a limited time only! Boo.

The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf shows off their comparative advantage by introducing Tea Cappucinos at all outlets from 8th April! I was pretty excited to try these teas for myself and made a trip down to Forum's Coffee Bean with my family on a relaxing Sunday.

The Coffee Bean staff making my tea cappuccinos!

There are 3 flavours under Coffee Bean's 50th Anniversary Tea Cappuccino range - Chai, Scottish Breakfast and Anniversary Blend Tea, are at $6 a cup and will definitely keep you awake for the rest of the afternoon!

Chai -The chai flavoured tea tasted like cinnamon, which my mum particularly liked. It was refreshing and light on the taste buds. Great for those who like a spicier blend!

Anniversary Blend Tea - the anniversary tea had an acai berry flavour, which is kinda like rose tea. If you're into flowery, fragrant tea, this would be great for you! My dad liked this one!

Scottish Breakfast Tea - the scottish breakfast tea tasted like scottish breakfast tea but the caramelized sugar and cappucino made it sweet with a powerful punch. Among the three I liked this one the most because it gave me a wake up call and I was alert for the rest of the day!

Their tea and foamed milk with vanilla bean sauce mixed with caramelized sugar (the design on the top) is sweet enough, so I wouldn't recommend adding any more sugar to your tea blend!

Validity
As all good things come to an end eventually, these Tea Cappucinos are only available from 8th April to 25 May, in conjunction with The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf's 50th anniversary so grab them quick!!

Been recommending these to my friends and colleagues and they've all been leaving positive reviews as well!

Thank you Coffee Bean for the tea cappuccinos!

Angelababy's Cafe in Hong Kong

Admit it. Angelababy is freaking pretty. In her Audrey Hepburn-inspired photoshoot, she captivates and exudes class and beauty. Hundreds, or maybe thousands of girls, wished they had her natural looks, and of course, I'm enamored too.

Which is why I made a trip to check out Angelababy's baby cafe in Hong Kong!

 Our reaction? Wah, posh.

We were there on a weekday during lunch time, and there wasn't any queue. Check out the walls, plastered with Angelababy's face in her various photoshoots. The black surroundings made the place look unfriendly and cold. The bit that annoyed me the most was that the table to chair height ratio wasn't correct so I couldn't enjoy eating properly.

All restaurants need to pay attention to detail zzz.

The lunch menu, with Angelababy in a maid-like outfit. Guaranteed hit with guys who like these sorta things.

We ordered two lunch sets so we got to pick an appetizer and a main course!

The soup was diluted, and if it wasn't for the fact that my friend and I were starving, we wouldn't have finished it.

Our duck salad, which was really dry and there was nothing spectacular about it. K next.

Our grilled chicken. The vegetables were really hard and the chicken wasn't piping hot (as evidenced by the lack of smoke), this was 5/10 at best.

Grilled Lamb chop which was really juicy and fatty, I thought that this was the best dish among the 4 that we shared. However, I wouldn't go so far as to say this is a must try when you're there, it's only a 6/10.

Overall, it was a really affordable meal, I think we spent about SGD$20 per person? However, I wouldn't come back again because the food isn't a huge draw, and if I really wanted to enjoy Angelababy's photographic presence, I'd surf the web to look at  her pictures. Plus, only two out of the 4 walls had pictures of her, so if you're going just for her, don't expect too much, unless she makes an appearance herself.

Smoothie King in Singapore

As more and more Singaporeans opt for the healthier choice without compromising taste, the number of F&B outlets who can match up to those standards are declining in numbers.

I am super excited to know that Smoooothie King is here in Singapore which means I don't have to worry about damaging my body while enjoying good, nutritous and delicious smoothies!

With over 650 stores across the US and South Korea, Smoothie King has decided to set up their food chain in Singapore, opening their first store at Centrepoint and most recently, their second store at 313 somerset!

It offers 27 different types of smoothies in Singapore along with wraps, salads and tacos and their smoothies fall into three categories – Refreshing, Slim & Lite and Nutritious Meals.

I could really use a Smoothie right now, Singapore's weather is terribly hot.

Seats for you to rest your tired feet from shopping or just hangout with your friends!

I took a trip to Smoothie King and had one of their popular, customer favourites, Banana Berry Treat! The smoothie is a delicious blend of strawberry, raspberry and banana.Very refreshing and sweet, will definitely order this again!

Satisfied with our smoothies, plus the seats are quite comfortable to relax on!

You get one of these after you place your order at the counter, and once it beeps, your smoothie is ready for pick up!

It's called the King for a reason ;)

Thanks Smoothie King and Hyacinths for the smoothies!! Am a regular customer now!

Yummy omakase Japanese Food at Hachi

Sometimes we visit a Japanese establishment and find that we are drawn to foods that we are comfortable with, and tend to stay away from the stuff we don't recognise. Cue the brilliant concept of omakase (Japanese for 'I'll leave it to you'), where the chef decides on the tasting menu for the evening. It's a great way for people to sample many ingredients and dishes that are less commonplace, but deliver truly unique and exciting flavours.

One evening, after a friend’s trusty recommendation, we decided to give Hachi a go. Stepping into the restaurant, we immediately notice the minimalist feel, and a layout designed to allow patrons to look at the counter from whereever they're seated. This was a great decision, allowing everyone to see how the chefs put the finishing touches on the dishes, especially for curious eyes like mine.

We started the night with a round of sake as we took in the surroundings. From that moment, the anticipation started building up. What would be our next dish? Would we like it? Thankfully the sake helped me to relax.

On to the food!

Our first course was a medley of mountain yams, roe, and konyaku. The crunchy yams and lightly sour hints from the konyaku set the expectation high. It was simple and easy to eat, and a good starter to prepare our taste buds for what we were about to have next.

Our second course consisted of a beautiful sashimi platter, and the fish was really fresh. We expected no less than grated wasabi and was pleased to find that it was top notch. Only regret was that we wished we had more!

The next dish was Salt grilled fresh Canadian (sic) oyster covered with mentaiko. This was no doubt the best oyster dish I ever had!! The oysters are kept live until ordered, which the manager later explained was of absolute importance to maintain the freshness. Covered in creamy mentaiko and grilled shortly, this was an absolute delight to have. After my first bite my eyes literally widened! I’ve been raving about this to many friends and definitely want to have this again the next time I’m back!

The next course was a Japanese vegetable dish that was a good welcome after the delicious oyster. On the right was some vegetables, which I'm not a big fan of, but thankfully we didn’t waste any food as my date finished this for me. :D The soup in the little cup was a mini oden, and I finished that happily.

Not a huge fan of soups, but we were served a clear fish broth which it looked plain, but my date found it surprisingly good.

Sushi Platter: It's not a complete Japanese omakase without some good ol' sushi. Only wished there were more! I normally dislike ordering roe sushi because I prefer smaller amounts of it, atop of some sushi rolls. This time, it allowed me to focus on the roe juices enhanced by the vinegar sushi rice, which I had come to appreciate only after this.

Wafu salad. The beef was so-so, and we finished this quickly because I loved the salad sauce. Hehe.

Soba; I was too full to finish it by myself, but these handmade noodles were made wonderfully and was a good end to the meal.

My sweet tastebuds wouldn’t allow me to do without dessert, which was Yuzu ice cream with mandarin oranges. The chef commented that he came up with this dessert because it was the CNY season and it was my first time having Yuzu ice cream! It was so good I wanted seconds despite my full tummy.

Our sake cups: Can you guess which was mine?

Managed to take a picture with the head chef behind the counter! He delighted us with some cheerful banter and I tried to reply in my broken Japanese.

It was a wonderful evening at Hachi. The chef designed a menu that showed off their high-grade ingredients and even gave us a complimentary refill of hot sake. The price was a little steep (over $100/pax; you have been warned) but we enjoyed the friendly staff and surprises at every course.

Would definitely be back again!
