Komachi's signature hair and scalp treatment - reduce hair loss and leaves hair smooth & moisturized!

Happy Chinese New Year everyone!! Hope you guys enjoyed the break. I certainly did!!! It's been a few months since I last dyed my hair at Komachi the Hair Cult and I thought it was time my scalp deserved some pampering. Hair plays a super important part in forming impressions during conversations!

I've been blessed with thicker hair - but that has made me take that for granted. Though my hair looks full bodied, I drop a lot of hair daily. Whenever I comb my hair, shampoo my hair, or even just sitting down typing this, I can see and feel my hair drop, landing on my arms or on an untidy pile on the floor.

It scared me, so I finally decided to seek help from Komachi.

Before starting my scalp and hair treatment, I wanted a quick fringe trim! Thanks Meiko!!

Done!

Afterwhich I was introduced to the products that were going to be used on my hair. You can purchase them after the treatment for use at home too! These products are carefully tested and have achieved proven results in Japan!

Hair products are best absorbed after a good wash, so the treatment began with purple rose shampoo accompanied by an amazing head massage which made my hair smell divine!

Head massages are the best!

Then began the green tea scalp treatment. Miko will segment your hair and generously brush it on your head, producing a nice, cooling effect! This treatment helps to balance your scalp's ph levels and deep cleanses your pores to get rid of impurities caused by dirt, dust, grime and free radicals in the air.

At the same time, it repairs the texture and cuticles of your hair :)

My hair is able to breathe again! Hello healthy scalp!

Then my hair was placed in a mist steamer so the molecules can easily penetrate into my hair and scalp! Many salons use different types of machines to produce heat, but please remember that if you can feel the heat emitting to your face or your scalp tells you that the temperature is too hot, it is BAD for your hair! It is actually more damaging than helping. I was very pleased with the machine used at Komachi because I could still move my head to read and it was very comfortable throughout!

Once my scalp has locked in the moisture, the treatment was rinsed off, leaving a cool sensation that was soothing and refreshing.

After drying my hair, this Oil of Argan was applied as a supplement. It is 100% paraben and allergen free and it does wonders for your hair! It replenishes moisture and gives your hair that extra boost ;) This can also be used on dyed hair on days you feel your hair is feeling dry!

Verdict: I LOVE IT! Will definitely come back to get this again! My hair feels so much more moisturized, and I used to have an oily scalp but this is completely gone now. You can see how shiny my hair looks in this picture, and that's because it was SUPER SMOOTH!!

Meiko shows off her love for braids as she styles my hair for the afternoon out :) Check out that zig-zag in the middle.

Thank you Komachi the Hair Cult, Meiko and Miko for the wonderful service and for restoring my hair to its true glory!!!

Be sure to make an appointment before heading down for your treatment! So glad my hair loss has reduced tremendously :)

Marina Bay Sands Hotel Review

Over Christmas I went to MBS for some R&R, the tree was really tall and beautifully decorated!

There's just something about a huge christmas tree at a hotel lobby that gets everyone excited and into the whole christmas mood :)

The lobby is magnificantly huge. On one end is the express lift to the rooftop, and the other, the check in counter! If you're wondering how to get here by public transport or how to navigate around, it's connected to Bayfront MRT station, which is on the circle line. Getting to orchard road for some shopping is about20 minutes from here!

The check-in counter staff were very polite :) Major plus!

The rooms feature an amazing view of Gardens by the Bay which I still think was inspired by Avatar.

Wouldn't you agree?? Even though it's technically man-made, it's still calming and is a great getaway location!

The pillows were plushy, the beds had great support for my back and this was soo comfortable to lie on!! Air-conditioning was perfect for a snuggled night's rest.

The toilet was very spacious with a lovely bathtub, marble decor, truly luxurious! Two sinks so no fighting in the morning hahah.

Selfie in the toilet with my trusty Casio

Toilet bowl's on the other side so someone can use the toilet while someone else is bathing. For efficiency purposes? Lol.

If you've got a stay at Marina Bay Sands, you have to check out their rooftop. It's truly an amazing view of the city! Access is free for up to 4 guests per room :) It's a bit chilly and windy there, so bring a scarf or a cardigan. Yes, Singapore can actually be pretty cold sometimes! On clear skies the air is really refreshing!

Singapore is such a great place to live in, it's so safe, clean, granted more could be done to improve the arts scene but we're wayy more open and exposed to international influences than 5 years ago. At least we're constantly trying. Certain economies have just stagnated while we are always looking for new opportunities.

Also, isn't meritocracy a good source of motivation? Albeit slightly unhealthy. Haha.

In the distance I could make out my office building and how far I've come since I've graduated from NTU. Being in the working world is no easy business! Though you don't have to study for exams, there's more pressure from expectations and enjoying your work environment.

Leading to the entrance of Ku de Ta. Here's a tip if you don't want to pay for entrance to the rooftop, say you're going to Ku de Ta for a drink :X

Looking forward to a great 2014, I'll make it superb :p

ZA Rich-Glam Liquid Rouge Review

Hello everyone! Sorry for the long hiatus, was living it up spending lots of time with family and friends, travelled to HK (yes, again, but who could resist when flights were only $200 return?!)

2013 had its ups and downs but one thing is for sure - I've emerged stronger. Thank you for continuing to support me and leaving me encouraging comments, or sweet emails of inspiration, I really appreciate all of it and will work harder in 2014!

A while ago I was invited to a ZA Rouge Affair that introduced us to their new range of liquid rouges! There were a few activity stalls set up so we could get to know the products better and bring home some more goodies!

Activity 1: Revealed with a kiss!

We just had to try out their new liquid rouges for ourselves, right? Here, a shade of rich-glam liquid rouge was applied on us and we had to kiss a serviette to find out our lip shape! Mine's full and wide, like Anne Hathaway's hehe.

Anne Hathaway has a gorgeous smile, mesmerizing.

While waiting for our turn, with pretty Yijing!

I really liked how moisturizing the liquid rouge was on my lips! :)

Activity 2: Toss & Win~!

We were given a few small flowers and had to attempt to throw them into shot glasses with prize labels on them! It was really tough and I don't think I have very good throwing skills hahah. Whoever is good at this can probably fully utilize those arcade rewards  ;X

Activity 3: Identifying materials!

As gripz was one of the sponsors for the event, there was a booth where we were introduced to different types of leather that gripz uses for their shoes!

Yijing and I managed to guess the right material from the sample and got a little prize!

There was another activity where we had to turn over cards to match 2 photos at a time, but I was too excited to take a photo. Oops.

We got to bring two shades home to play with! Sharp eyes will notice I'm wearing the CJC PE t-shirt hahaha.

I'm really happy with the ZA Rich-Glam Liquid Rouges ($18.90) because I can easily get the rich colour of lipstick AND shine of lipgloss in one application!

Also, the ultra fit applicator helps ensure that the appropriate amount of liquid is held in the curve and fits your lips perfectly, so it doesn't pick up too much product and you can apply straightaway!

Thank you ZA for having me! Here's a group picture with my blogger friends :) The liquid rouges are available in stores from 30 Jan 2014.

Rounge SGC Nail Salon Tokyo Review - Gel vs Gelish

Just like painting nails is therapeutic, looking at my nails on a particularly stressful afternoon cheers me up. This is especially so when it's done the way I like it, drawn professionally, and with no chips, unsightly edges or missing crystals. Once you've found a salon that does that for you, you'll keep going back. I managed to find one such salon and I'm very excited to share this with you guys!!

Photo a day before I get my nails done!
But first -

Gel vs Gelish

What's the difference between Gel and Gelish? Are your nails done using gelish? When I answer no and say it's gel, they look confused.

I've been asked this question pretty frequently, and I think it's time to share the answer online.

Gelish, is the name of a type of gel under Harmony, produced in US. It's just a brand, like you can't assume that all post-it's are under 3M, right? There are sticky pads produced by other companies as well.

Gel is the generic name for manicures that resembles acrylic nails, but are far less damaging as your nail is not glued on, but rather, applied on. Gel manicures take a much longer time for you to finish your manicure compared to the traditional ones. Instead of the usual 2 coats for basic manicures, gel manicures can take 10 or more coats, simply because they are individually painted on and require LED/UV light to dry between coats.

Nail designs by Rounge SGC Nail Salon, using Japanese brand of gel nails

However, gel nails do not chip easily and are extremely durable, so you can be doing manual labour and not worry about your nails. Before I switched to gel manicures, my nail polish used to be so easily chipped that I would remove them within a week. Sometimes, they would get chipped the very next day. What a waste of money!!

---

As I mentioned in the beginning of the post, I found a salon that exceeded my expectations and left me very satisfied, and that is Rounge SGC Nail Salon, Tokyo, which has 10 outlets in Japan and they just opened their first outlet in Singapore and even more recently, in New York, not too long ago!

Most of their manicurists are japanese staff who are very patient, greet you cheerfully, and provide top notch service.

I thought I'd highlight some of the amazing perks you don't get at ordinary salons (and trust me, I've been to plenty) that Rounge SGC offers.

Perks

  • Premium quality gel nail products from Japan
Rounge SGC Nail Salon uses top products in Japan like Ace Gel which is not as harmful and harsh on your nails, and most importantly, are a great base for designs. They are able to handle marbling effects, more layers of colour, create gradients of colour, and more. There are just so many endless possibilities to be achieved!

(If you're wondering why the english doesn't really make sense, I'm using google translate's auto translator, the original language is in Japanese)

Obtained from Ace Gel's gallery, simply gorgeous.

  • Free soak off, even if you did your nails at another shop

This is a bit of a shocker because many many salons charge additional $20 or so just to soak off your already grown out gel nails. Soaking off is not entirely easy because the gel portion of your nails have to be soaked, filed and buffed, which takes about 20 minutes. Furthermore, if they are over buffed your nails will be damaged.

Rounge SGC does it for you, FOR FREE.

  • Free repair for 1 week

If your nail is chipped, broken, loose or separated, contact the salon immediately and they will repair it for you unconditionally! They are that confident about their quality. I didn't have any issues because my nails are still in perfect condition even though I am pretty clumsy and sometimes scratch at my nails.

  • Unlimited accessories

Many salons charge additional $1, for every extra big crystal, or $4 per finger of nail art, but not Rounge SGC. All options are included in the fixed rate so you won't have any hidden charges! When you are given a price, that's it, independent of design!

They have a crazy wide variety of accessories, and once again I have to stress that they are available at NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE. Some accessories are even imported specially from Japan and are not found in Singapore!

Christmas nails

She's done nails for many Japanese celebrities and is very passionate and dedicated in her nail designs. At the end of manicures, customers will even get a Rounge SGC Nail Salon buffer, compliments of the salon!

It's been two weeks since I've gotten my manicure and they are still in tip top condition! No chips, no broken edges, nothing. The only thing that's changed is that my nails have grown longer. I'm very pleased!! Rounge SGC Nail Salon is having a promotion for first time customers, where a full gel manicure is fixed at $80.
