AFA 2013, Marble Wonderland Collection Singapore

Thank you AFA for the media passes this year! So glad that the crowd control, layout of the booths and backstage access were improved tremendously from last year, so well done organizers!! I like checking out AFA because you get to see a different side of Singapore, check out the latest anime, and of course, my favourite would be checking out the fashion and makeup of Japanese girls through the Marble Wonderland Collection!


This year's AFA had an amazing opportunity for a lucky winner to get an all expenses paid trip to Japan to be the voice for one of their characters in the anime "Knights of Sidonia"!! I signed up just for kicks but totally did not expect the public speaking aspect. We had to read three parts of the script in front of an audience!

I think they were looking for girls who put a lot of emotions in their voice and can speak japanese and I was completely unprepared and nervous so I don't think I did well. Oh well it was a fun chance to add XP points to my public speaking!

yThis booth by Aoyama 3D Salon caught my eye because you can print a 3D model of anything by using a scanner!! They were demonstrating the scan process on volunteers, and their 3D printer prints everything down to the colour. Amazing right! It was also on sale specially for AFA brought by Sanfride inc.

Japanese celebrities in town just to promote their latest anime series, check!

Saw this lady with a beautiful and elaborate costume at Rakuten and just had to take a photo with her! They were also giving away Brands Collagen samples. Yay!

This 1:1 scale titan head freaked the crap outta me. Pretty sure other people were afraid of it too. Not going to enlarge this picture but if you're interested you can click on it for a better view!

I really applaud these people who take so much time and effort to make a costume from scratch!! It must take a lot of endurance, and really good sewing skills, or a pro sewing machine at least.



Popped by the Atelier Royale to support Yutaki!! This year the maid and butler cafe combine spaces to serve delicious food for guests of AFA. Not just any maid or butler, but super cute girls and handsome guys that were handpicked just for the job!

Was running out of time so I headed to the Marble Wonderland Collection Fashion show and performance


Asia Kawaii Way - the way to make girls "Kawaii" We saw Hachioji P known as the track maker of Hatsune Miku, 217 &Miume as dancers striking popularity on video sites and twins Amiaya with their concept of Tokyo pop.

From the fashion aspect, Marble Wonderland Collection introduces Japanese girls' fashion in three main areas - Harajuku, Shibuya and Akihabara!

Ladies on the catwalk: Misako Aoki, pioneer of Lolita fashion and officially appointed as Kawaii ambassador by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Natsumi Saito and Tenchim, popular models of street fashion, and Alodia Gosiengfiao (how cool is the name Alodia?!) who has 2.31 million likes on Facebook and has been cosplaying since she was 15.

After the show, I went to check out the Asia Kawaii Way corner :)



We were in for a treat! Some of these products were not even available in Singapore!! Many people asked about purchasing them but were disappointed.



Koji had their variety of Dolly Wink eyelashes, Tutti showcased their colour contact lenses with different series to make your eyes larger, cuter, and more mesmorizing. Of course, no Japanese launch would be complete without FEAT's strong fiber which turns single eyelids into double ones. Girls also tried out Homei's nail decoration and Kotsuban Makutsubo Belt which boasts it's a perfect diet program!

 Shades from Shine, really unique designs using chains and rhinestones!! If you've got attitude this will complete your look.

Komachi the Hair Cult using OCS Organic Care System Hair Dye

I've experimented with long and short hairstyles since primary school and I've decided that I like long hair on me. However, my usual hair was getting a little too boring for my liking, so I wanted to shake things up a bit. Was deciding between a perm or a hair dye and decided to go for the latter so that I could still look youthful.

Booked an appointment with Komachi the Hair Cult under Meiko, and crossed my fingers that it would turn out well, and I am so happy that it did!

Before:


Unkempt hair, dry ends. Go away now!!! Also, the roots of my hair are really weak so I drop a lot of hair :( My hair is naturally a dark shade of chestnut brown, perhaps part of my german roots.

All ready for my baby step transformation! Notice how the ends of my hair look really dry? :(

Meiko began by cutting my hair. She is from Nagoya so you can ask her about things to eat in her hometown! She has been in this industry for more than 8 years :O

After cutting my hair, it was time for my first hair wash. I've always liked this towel wrapped around my hair kinda look. Oh! If you noticed, Komachi designed their very own slip on robe which prevents hair from falling on your clothes! Very thoughtful right?

Next came the big decision.

I asked Meiko for her recommendation on which hair colour I should pick, considering I didn't want something too obvious and inappropriate for work. She gave me three choices, ash, gold and toffee. After comparing between them, I decided that I liked toffee the best because of its vibrant and youthful shade. It was also several shades lighter than my natural hair.

Thus, Toffee it was!

After deciding on a colour, Meiko went off for a while to mix the dye. When I saw the mix, I asked Meiko if that was going to be the colour of my hair because it's too light!! She laughed and said that the actual result will be much darker. Phew~


My hair rarely looks this neat.


After applying the mixture evenly on my hair, she placed a plastic bag on my head and plugged in an oscillating machine. This Heater machine heats up your hair slightly so that the dye will seep into your hair faster! It's important that the machine your salon uses does not use too high a temperature on your hair or it will damage your hair cuticles!! This machine was gentle and I barely felt anything at all. 

Some time passed and I got my hair washed again!


Meiko wanted to prevent my hair from being dry so she recommended hair treatment for my delicate hair!  This purple shade is quite nice huh. Haha! After applying this generously on my hair, it was time for another wash, blow dry, and to witness the finished product. Everything took about 2.5hours?

Behold, neat, smooth, silky, toffee hair!!! I was so pleased with this because it's a huge difference from my hair before! I couldn't stop smelling and touching my hair. SUPER HAPPY!!

 After my hair was done, I rushed to TWG to have lunch, was soo hungry!

How to have a better day ahead when you wake up on your Sealy

You know those days when you wake up just feeling grumpy and out of sorts, and somehow it affects your mood for the rest of the day?

Well, YOU have control over how you feel, and adding these little routines to your morning can set the tone for your day.

Before I go to sleep at night, I make sure I use hydration products to keep my skin moisturized during the night. I crawl into my Sealy, hug my bolster, and sleeeeeeep.

Here are some tips on how to have a happy, calm day starting from the moment you wake up. Remember that it's a private time you should have that is 100% focused on you :)

1. Snooze


Tell yourself that you're allowed to snooze once a day. And make sure it's only once. If you feel really groggy in the morning, try the SleepCycle app for the iPhone which measures your sleep cycle and wakes you up at the lightest point of your sleep!

2. Try to visualize what you dreamt about


I do this in the morning and it helps me remember my dreams! Then I'll either type it out on my phone or write it on a rough piece of paper. Dreams are a reflection of your subconscious and can reveal what's actually lurking in your mind that you've tried to forget or push aside. It's eerily accurate.

Unless you had a nightmare, then by all means, skip this for the day.

3. Draw the curtains/Turn on the light


This will wake your brain and force your body to be alert!


4. Don't reach for the phone just yet!

I know you've synced your email, your facebook notifications, whatsapp chats all on your phone, but checking them first thing in the morning will dampen your mood. Yes you have a TON of things to do, but that can wait. Give yourself some alone time first!


5. Stretch and give a bigggg yawn


This increases your flexibility, improves circulation and relieves tension. So I say, why not???


After practicing these in the morning, I feel more refreshed than ever and am ready to start my day. Thanks to Sealy for the well rested sleep, I can concentrate and stay focused at work!

With Hayley at the Timotei launch event, look at how bouncy and soft our hair is!!

One day, I came home from an event and I was having a chat with my mum when she suddenly commented that my hair smelt 'familiar'. After giving a few hints, she guessed that I was using Timotei products!! #howdidsheknow

Went with Nurul and we were so glad there was food!!! Was so hungry!! The rosemary chicken was really good.

Decoration was all set and arranged nicely :)

After getting our hair pampered, we made our own little terrarium using soil, stones and of course, a plant!

Here's what we were given, the red stuff are little folded roses. So pretty!!

Here's my completed terrarium! It's very easy to maintain because you only have to water it once every 6 months and it doesn't need direct sunlight so you can place it on your office desk!

After the launch, we were feeling nibbly so Nurul, Angie, Fenny and I went to a sushi place at Orchard Central. My hair smelled soo nice even after drying my hair, I was too pleased with the results!
