Trattoria Gallo D'Oro's Food Tasting with Casio Sheen!

10:00 AM claire 0 Comments

When I was in Italy last year, I noticed that the restaurants were pretty empty on weekday nights, but more crowded on weekends. Spoke to an Italian friend S, who told me that the italians like to have dinner at home together on weekdays, plus it's expensive to eat out, so they normally reserve that for the weekends.

Even if families eat out, I didn't catch a single family SHARING food. At all! While my friends and I were happily tasting each other's plates and concluding the best dishes for each meal.

At Trattoria Gallo D'Oro, they want to bring that homely, sharing concept into an italian restaurant! Had this intimate dinner with some of my Casio Sheen blogger friends on a weekday night :)

Just realised that the straw looks like a number "1". Each of us served with an individual dish for easy sharing!
Nurul and Jacelyn

Charmaine was late and lost, so we were camwhoring and waiting around! I walked around the restaurant for a bit as I... am naturally curious.

Can't wait for my hair to grow longer! :) Thinking of perming my hair :D

I like how the crates were used as a design!
Peeping through the glass window to see chef hard at work!

Peeping through the door now. I was caught a few seconds after taking this pic. Haha.
 Glasses for your liquid preferences?

Chef says that paintings are being shipped over from Italy to fill up the walls!
 Now, pictures of the food!
Bread with vinegar and olive oil. Wish there was more olive oil though, but it was alright.
Burratina di bufala con pomodorini  (Fresh buffalo Burratina cheese with sliced tomato, basil and ‘first pressed’ organic extra virgin olive oil)

I didn't try this because of my wonky stomach. The girls loved it though!

The service was great. Waiter was polite and patiently explained our dishes to us, and of course, the wine that was served throughout the meal. Prosecco is a type of sparkling wine that can be drank from starter til dessert, but champagnes can be drank from starter until the main course.
Sardine fritte (Deep fried sardines with onions and lemon) - a main course in the menu but presented as an appetiser. Crispy and doesn't have a strong fishy taste. This is actually the first time I'm having fried sardines! I think I might be able to start eating it as a snack.

Tagliere de affettati misti Emiliani (Selections of authentic Emilia Romagna cold cuts)
I.love.parma.ham. I deliciously gulped this down.
Spaghetti alle vongole con aglio, prezzemolo e vino bianco (spaghetti with clams, garlic and white wine sauce) - served without wine yesterday for Nurul, by this time we were getting really full with happy bellies.
Casonsei alla Bergamasca (Stuffed veal ravioli served with golden butter, crispy bacon and sage)
This was easily my favourite dish! Unique texture and bursts of flavour. Homemade too!
Involtini di manzo ripieni (Rolled beef with mozzarella, capers and tomato sauce). Tender beef!! Plus points.
Branzino intero al forno (Oven baked whole Sea Bass with leeks and Italian herbs)
Very fresh! Italian herbs weren't too overpowering, but I didn't taste a strong fishy taste (as you could guess, I really don't like fishes with strong fishy tastes. It makes me nauseous)
Pollo al forno rustico (Roasted chicken with potatoes, olives and shallots)
Chef was so kind to have given us two servings because he was afraid it wasn't enough! We were sooo full but the chicken was too tempting.
For dessert, we had the Torta della Nonna con gelato (Grandmother custard cake with vanilla gelato)**
A definite must try. All of us couldn't stop grinning from ear to ear! Not too overly sweet. I have no picture of this because... I was talking to the chef and by the time I got back, the girls devoured almost everything!! But left a portion for me. Which didn't look like a very appetizing photo for a blog post and I was tempted to gulp it down myself. Hahah. If you haven't been convinced by the previous dishes, then you gotta try this.

Everyone has their dreams and the chef shared his with us.

THE CHEF'S DREAM:

"I'll have whatever special there is today!"

Yes! That's why he has a daily specials board which he encourages customers to try! Make chef's day by telling him the above phrase, and your taste buds are going to be in for a treat.

Chef was also working at other italian restaurants in hotels for the past 10 years was it? That he has been in Singapore! When he came to singapore he knew ZERO english. And now he speaks singlish au naturale. Hahah. He also conducted cooking classes for tai tais! Cracked some jokes about how he asked them to remove all their diamond rings and many figure jewelry before the cooking started. When I expressed my willingness to learn how to make homemade pasta, he told me to just get someone to cook for me instead -_-

I wore a plain black lacy dress!

Showing off our Casio Sheen watches :) And the chef acting all James Bond hahah.
